PM DENIES KNOWLEDGE OF LACK OF SUPPLIES AT HOSPITAL
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said that the recent complaint that there was no plaster of Paris at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital is baffling.
“I don’t know how they can’t have plaster of
Paris. I don’t know if there was a shortage. I will check it out. This is first time I am hearing of this”, the PM said on radio on Monday.
The issue of the lack of plaster of Paris came to the fore after Lawyer Grant Connell reported that his son broke his hand and had to be treated in Barbados after a doctor at the hospital told him that there was no plaster of Paris at the medical facility.
The PM said that if there is a shortage of the material, that should be considered a management issue as the Government spends 11% of its budget on healthcare, some EC$7 million.
Gonsalves noted that it is a known fact that there is a problem in managing and wastage of all kinds at the hospital.
