Dominica PM Roosevelt Skerrit loses roof in Hurricane Maria

As Dominica faces the intensity of the “extremely dangerous” Category 5 Hurricane Maria, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is among those taking to social media to report their experience.

In a Facebook post, PM Skerrit said his roof had been blown off and his house was flooding.

“I am at the complete mercy of the hurricane,” he added.

Minutes later, he updated that he had been rescued.

There were also reports that the roof of the main hospital has been lost.

In addition to roofs being blown off, residents across Dominica have been reporting trees breaking and heavy rain and high winds as Hurricane Maria batters the island with maximum winds of 160 mph (260 km/h) with higher gusts.
