AFTER KIRK

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is picking up the pieces and counting the losses after the passing of Tropical Storm Kirk. However, reports indicate that it was not a direct impact, but the damages are significant. The good hands of the authorities will make a proper assessment and the true figures will be released soon.

It is my understanding that some roads in the Rural communities were damages and the loss of some crops. There is no loss of life associated with the storm and that we give God thanks and praise.

We look forward to the country returning to normalcy on Monday with the reopening of schools and all business at full operations.

We must note, however, that the controversial bridge at Rabacca has again stood the test of time and communications linking North Windward was not interrupted. I will urge citizens not to litter in the rivers and do not make unnecessary logging part of your hobby. However, I believe it is time for the Civil Engineers to consider raising bridges at least three feet above the earth’s surface, which will allow for free movement of debris to pass under with minimal obstruction. I do not have a degree, but my common sense will not fail me.

Now folks enjoy the remainder of the weekend and may God bless St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
