Prime Minister of Dominica has lost his roof in the passage of Hurricane Maria
As Dominica faces the intensity of the “extremely dangerous” Category 5 Hurricane Maria, the island’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, is among those taking to social media to report their experience.
In a Facebook post, PM Skerrit said his roof had been blown off and his house was flooding.
There were also reports that the roof of the main hospital has been lost.
In addition to roofs being blown off, residents across Dominica have been reporting trees breaking and heavy rain and high winds as Hurricane Maria batters the island with maximum winds of 160 mph (260 km/h) with higher gusts.
The “extremely dangerous” Category 5 storm made landfall on the island late Monday.
Skerritt on Monday morning warned citizens that this was “not a time for heroism”.
