Day Twenty-Eight: Gratitude in Waiting
Scripture: Psalm 40:1–3
“I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.”
Reflection:
The psalmist begins with waiting. “I waited patiently for the LORD.” Waiting is hard. It is uncomfortable, uncertain, exhausting. We want answers now. We want resolution immediately. We want God to act on our timetable.
But the psalmist waited. He waited patiently. He did not give up. He did not lose faith. He did not take matters into his own hands. He waited for the LORD.
And then, the breakthrough came: “he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock.”
This is the testimony of one who waited and then received. The waiting was hard, but the deliverance was worth it. The pit was deep, but God drew him out. The bog was miry, but God set his feet on solid ground.
And the result is gratitude: “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.” The waiting produced worship. The deliverance produced gratitude. The pit became a platform for praise.
This is the pattern of the Christian life. We wait, we cry out, we trust, and God delivers. And when He delivers, we give thanks. Our gratitude is deepened by the memory of our waiting. Our praise is intensified by the recollection of our pain.
Where are you waiting today? What prayer are you still praying? What deliverance are you still hoping for? Do not lose heart. God hears. God sees. God will act in His time. And when He does, you will have a new song to sing—a song of praise born from the womb of waiting.
Journal: Where are you waiting for God to act? How can gratitude sustain you in the waiting?
Practice: Thank God in advance for the deliverance that is coming. Trust that He hears your cry and will act in His time.
Prayer: Lord, I am waiting. The waiting is hard. I want answers, resolution, deliverance. But I trust You. I trust Your timing. I trust Your goodness. Thank You that You hear my cry. Thank You that You will act. Let gratitude sustain me in the waiting, and let me sing a new song when You deliver. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
