WOMAN ON VACATION MURDERED

Sir Godfrey Gregg

So this woman 69-year-old Antonia “Toni” Rose, daughter of Germaine “Granny” Rose,  who lives in the United Stated visited St. Vincent and the Grenadines to bury her mother. The funeral took place on May 26, and the woman who was home alone in Queen’s Drive was apparently robbed, tied up and left hanging from the roof. The crime scene was discovered by her sister-in-law on the evening of May 15. Is this the new direction taking place in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, that you are no longer safe in your own home.

Police are investigating this death most likely as a robbery that went bad. Many people believe that nationals from the diaspora are loaded with money and other items of great value. I have a word of advice for the will be robbers are people travel with credit cards and other means of shopping, but without actual cash. So taking a life with an assumption is wrong and I hope the culprits are caught. The sad thing is that the Privy Council has placed a hold on the penalty “Death by hanging”. Unless we rid the country of that avenue and make the Caribbean Court of Justice our finale appellate court where an appeal can be tested with full jurisprudence there will be little or no deterrence to these heinous crimes.

The message is clear and simple and a bad signal to the world that St. Vincent and the Grenadines is not safe. These thugs that are terrorizing the state should be taken off our streets permanently. Citizens should live in the comfort of their homes and to an extent anywhere in the State of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
