Today is declared Emancipation Day since the abolition of slavery. The Act was passed on August 1, 1833, and became effective in 1834. Many people believe that we were enslaved in Africa and shipped to the Caribbean. However, if that is the case many are still in enslavement and there seen to be no way out of that mess.

Barbados has honoured a son of the soil and he is His Excellency Dr Granville Williams who was the founder and Patriarch of the Sons of God Apostolic and Spiritual Baptist Church established in October 1957. Dr Williams died in April 2014 leaving a congregation of over 10,000 members.
