I believe true friendship never dies. I believe once the bond of friendship has been strongly established, it can withstand innumerable difficulties. I believe if two people come to care about each other in a selfless and genuine way, then they can look past misunderstandings and annoyances to see the best in the other person. I believe that true friendship never dies not only because I want it to be true, but also because I have been fortunate enough to experience it.

Friendship may be one of the most commonly discussed topics. Authors, philosophers, and historical figures have said much on the subject. Saint Jerome (a Catholic) said, “The friendship that can cease has never been real.” I think he means that the acquaintances that come and go in our lives, do not qualify as true friends. George Washington said, “True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.” I have known my closest friends for more than 30 years. These friendships are a testament to Washington’s sentiment. We have endured “shocks of adversity” in several forms. In the nineties, many of my friends migrated to the USA and I followed a few years later. Although I met many in the New York area we don’t see that often but we stayed in touch. One of my very best friends moved to another State and we lost contact, but through social media, we have reconnected.  While I still tried to see my friends from school days, my work schedule does not give me a lot of free time. However, a true friend will check in daily to see how I am doing and if I need anything. I have known this person through a corresponding via email until we met in person in the year 2000. We have been very good friends and although we do not see each other like in the early years the friendship is cemented.

True friendship never dies. This is the friendship we should have with Jesus. Every day is sweeter than the day before. Will you want to experience this in your life today?
