MY ADVICE TO FRESHMEN SCHOLARS

High school is a time for exploration, learning, and personal growth. Embrace new experiences, build strong relationships, and prioritize your well-being. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, but also remember to stay true to yourself and focus on what truly matters.

Here’s some specific advice:
Academics:
  • Take responsibility for your learning:

High school is a time to learn how to learn. Make sure you understand the material, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and utilize resources like your teachers and guidance counsellor.

  • Don’t overschedule yourself:

Finding a balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and social life is important.

  • Prioritize sleep:

A consistent sleep schedule is crucial for academic performance and overall well-being.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help:

Teachers, guidance counsellors, and even classmates can be valuable resources.

  • Don’t let drama consume you:

Focus on your studies and avoid unnecessary conflict.

Social Life:
  • Be yourself: Authenticity is key to building genuine connections and confidence.
  • Embrace new experiences: Step outside your comfort zone and try new things.
  • Build strong relationships: Connect with classmates, teachers, and other members of the school community.
  • Attend school events: Homecoming, dances, and sporting events are great ways to socialize and have fun.
  • Avoid negative influences: Stay away from drugs, alcohol, and other harmful behaviours.
Personal Growth:
  • Find your passions: Explore additional subjects and activities to discover what truly interests you.
  • Prioritize your mental and physical health: Make time for exercise, healthy eating, and activities that bring you joy.
  • Learn to manage your time: Develop good organisational skills to balance your responsibilities.
  • Don’t be afraid to fail: Mistakes are part of the learning process.
  • Stay focused on your goals: Remember your long-term aspirations and work towards them.
  • Be kind to yourself and others: Treat everyone with respect and kindness.
High school is a journey, and it’s okay to make mistakes and learn along the way. Embrace the opportunities that come your way, and don’t be afraid to be yourself.
