My Dearest Family,
We are a family of strong, wonderful, and unique individuals. And with that strength and individuality comes the occasional clash of opinions, the heated debate, and the misunderstandings that can leave us all feeling hurt and distant. In these moments, I want to remind us that conflict is not a sign of a broken family; it is a sign of a real, living, and passionate one. What defines us is not the absence of arguments, but how we choose to repair and reconnect after them.
Let’s always remember that we are on the same team. An argument is not a battle to be won, but a bridge to be rebuilt. It’s okay to be angry, it’s okay to be frustrated, but it is never okay to be cruel or to attack each other’s character. Our goal should always be to understand, not to defeat. Let’s promise to use “I feel” statements, to truly listen to hear the heart of what the other is saying, and to be quick to apologize when our words or tone have caused pain.
Our love for each other is the foundation that is always stronger than any temporary disagreement. After we’ve had a moment to cool down, let’s be the ones to extend the olive branch—a kind word, a cup of tea, a simple “I’m sorry, can we try again?” Let’s never let the sun go down on our anger. Our bond is worth the humility it takes to forgive and the effort it takes to understand. I love each of you more than any disagreement we could ever have.
With a heart committed to us,
Sir Godfrey Gregg
