DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated the day after Christmas Day. It originated in the United Kingdom and is celebrated in a number of countries that previously formed part of the British Empire. Boxing Day is on 26 December, although the attached bank holiday or public holiday may take place either on that day or two days later.

We may ditch the Monarch, but we are still entwined in the traditions established by our colonisers.

When 26 December falls on a Saturday, Boxing Day is moved to the following Monday. If 26 December falls on a Sunday, the substitute public holiday is the following Tuesday. However, 26 December is referred to as Boxing Day even when it falls on a Sunday.

Despite all the celebrations around the world, there are no celebrations to supersede those in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The climax of the year starts with the “nine mornings celebrations leading up to Christmas Day. You can call that Christmas carnival. These celebrations attract visitors from around the world and give a boost to government revenue.

These days we can boost incident-free holidays. Every vendor makes money and there is no political discussion. Vincy people are like one family until after the New Year holiday.
